One of Tashkent's streets may be named after the first President of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. This was announced on February 6, during a meeting between Tashkent City Governor Shavkat Umurzakov and Turkey's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan, Olgan Bekar.

It is noted that Shavkat Umurzakov highlighted the rapid development of Uzbek-Turkish relations, emphasizing that these ties are a result of the strategic cooperation established by the leaders of both countries. He also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Turkish diplomatic corps in strengthening bilateral relations.

The ambassador expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and mentioned that his diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan was ending. He also shared his thoughts on several previously discussed matters, including the expansion of the Turkish school, the proposal to name a street in Tashkent after Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, and the establishment of a Turkish park in the city.

At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue dialogue and foster mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations.

It is worth noting that in March 2022, the then-Tashkent city governor, Jakhongir Artikkhodjayev, also discussed the possibility of naming a street after Mustafa Kemal Ataturk during his meeting with Olgan Bekar.

For reference, Olgan Bekar was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Uzbekistan in 2021.
