Zoo’s giraffe dies following rare stomach twist

On January 8, a giraffe at the Tashkent Zoo passed away after suffering a stomach twist, according to a statement from the zoo’s press service.
"We employed all available treatment methods in an attempt to save the giraffe, including consulting with specialists who took part in international veterinary video conferences and sought guidance from foreign colleagues," the report stated.
The results of a pathological and anatomical examination revealed that the giraffe’s death was caused by a stomach twist. Due to the anatomical and physiological characteristics of giraffes, surgical operations on their gastrointestinal system are not feasible. The report also mentioned that there are no known cases of successful treatment for such conditions in global veterinary practice.
