Recent reports indicate that several Uzbek citizens have encountered difficulties upon entering the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Among them were fans and journalists who traveled to Abu Dhabi to watch the June 5 match between the UAE and Uzbekistan national football teams but were denied entry into the country. Ahror Burhonov, spokesperson for Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded to the situation.

According to the Ministry, multiple appeals have been received regarding the problems faced by Uzbek nationals when entering the UAE. These include prolonged immigration checks at international airports, leaving many citizens stranded.

“Uzbek diplomatic missions in the UAE are actively working to resolve these issues,” said Burhonov. “Our diplomats are continuously monitoring the situation and are engaged in negotiations with UAE immigration authorities and other relevant agencies.”

The ongoing talks are aimed at facilitating the prompt and smooth entry of Uzbek citizens. Efforts are also underway to identify the underlying causes of the delays and inspections at the airports, in order to address the root of the problem and prevent similar incidents in the future.

“To provide maximum support, staff from our Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate General in Dubai are stationed at local airports, where they are offering direct assistance to our citizens,” the Ministry reported.

Previously, it was reported that Uzbek sports journalist Hasan Turdialiyev, despite having official accreditation to cover the match, was denied entry and had to return. He also noted that numerous football fans faced the same issue.

Additionally, more than 100 Uzbek citizens traveling on a Tashkent–Sharjah flight for the World Cup qualifier were reportedly held at Sharjah Airport. Authorities later stated that comprehensive measures were being taken to protect the rights and interests of those affected.
