Earlier, it was reported that more than 100 Uzbek citizens who traveled to the United Arab Emirates to attend the Uzbekistan–UAE World Cup qualifier via the Tashkent–Sharjah flight were being held at Sharjah International Airport. Measures are now being taken to protect their legitimate rights and interests, according to Ahror Burhonov, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
“We are closely monitoring the situation involving extended checks for foreigners—including Uzbek citizens—entering the UAE through various airports,” Burhonov wrote in an official statement.
The spokesperson noted that the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai have promptly held discussions with relevant UAE authorities and remain in constant communication to resolve the matter.
The UAE side explained that the increased security checks are linked to heightened measures in place due to several ongoing international events, resulting in longer inspection times at airports.
“Currently, all available resources have been mobilized to expedite the entry of our citizens. As a result, they have begun entering the country,” the statement added.
