4408A parliamentary inquiry has been issued to Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov regarding measures taken to protect Uzbek citizens residing abroad. This was announced by Alisher Kodirov, head of the "Milliy Tiklanish" Democratic Party’s parliamentary faction in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
"A parliamentary inquiry has been issued to Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov regarding measures taken to protect the rights and legitimate interests of Uzbek citizens residing in foreign countries," Kodirov stated.
Several points of criticism have been raised against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Many cases involving Uzbek citizens who become victims of crime, accidents, or fatalities abroad remain inadequately addressed. Families often lack clear guidance on how to repatriate their loved ones' remains, leaving them in distress.
The Ministry has also been criticized for its silence regarding reports of mistreatment and hostile behavior faced by Uzbek labor migrants, especially in Russia.
Additionally, the Ministry's lack of engagement in criminal cases involving Uzbek citizens abroad is notable. For instance, three Uzbeks were sentenced to death in the UAE for allegedly killing a Jewish rabbi. While the Ministry verbally confirmed its involvement to journalists, it failed to issue a formal public response or advocacy efforts.
The Ministry often issues vague statements, promising clarity or further updates, yet many matters remain unresolved, leaving affected families and citizens dissatisfied.
