Khusanov's move to “Manchester City”: What's holding up the announcement?

The transfer of 20-year-old Uzbek footballer Abdukodir Khusanov to one of the world's top teams has captured global attention, igniting discussions both within Uzbekistan and internationally. Even the smallest developments related to Khusanov are fueling ongoing media coverage. Abdukodir Khusanov, the young Uzbek defender, is expected to wear the number 45 shirt for "Manchester City", as reported by the "MCFC Lads" fan page. This number has historical significance at the club, previously worn by the famous Italian striker Mario Balotelli. 

Reports indicate that Khusanov’s visa issues are near resolution, and the 20-year-old is expected to travel to England shortly for a medical examination with "Manchester City". His debut with the club could take place in an upcoming Premier League match against "Chelsea".

Guardiola avoids commenting on Khusanov's transfer

"Manchester City" manager Pep Guardiola has remained tight-lipped when questioned about Abdukodir Khusanov's impending arrival at the club. Guardiola stated that he is unaware of the current situation concerning Khusanov, as well as fellow potential signings Omar Marmush and Vitor Reis.

"I don’t know what is happening with any of these players. I don’t have specific information about whether they will join or not," Guardiola explained.

Sources close to the deal suggest that the delay in Khusanov’s official announcement is due to pending visa issues, but it is expected to be resolved soon. "Manchester City" had planned to make an official statement on January 17. Prominent transfer insider Fabrizio Romano also reassured fans on his social media platform X, stating that the transfer will be finalized shortly.

Uzbek sports journalist Davron Fayziev offered his perspective on the situation, addressing Guardiola’s remarks. 

"When Guardiola was asked about Khusanov after the match, he responded by saying he couldn’t provide any information. This is a perfectly normal response. Just because Guardiola doesn’t know Khusanov personally doesn’t mean the transfer information is incorrect. It’s simply a matter of professionalism—until the contract is officially signed, the club maintains discretion in such matters," Fayziev said.

"Man City" signs competitor for Khusanov

"Manchester City" is set to bring in 18-year-old Brazilian defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras, further intensifying competition for Abdukodir Khusanov. Football insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed the transfer on his social media platform X, reporting that the two clubs have reached an agreement, and the deal is on the verge of being finalized. "Manchester City" will pay €40 million to secure Reis, who will soon travel to England to complete his move.

Reis, a central defender and a product of the "Palmeiras" academy, has made 22 appearances for the club’s senior team, scoring two goals. His market value is estimated at €14 million by the online platform "Transfermarkt". The management at Manchester City" is eager for Reis to join the squad as soon as possible, signaling the club’s intention to strengthen its defensive lineup.

Salim Abduvaliev dismissed from leadership of Sports Wrestling Association

Salim Abduvaliev, known as "Salimboyvaccha" and the head of the Sports Wrestling Association of Uzbekistan, has been dismissed from his post. According to reports from QALAMPIR.UZ, Abduvaliev was removed following elections held at the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan (NOC), where Nigmatilla Tulkinovich Yuldashev, the Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan, was elected as the new chairman of the association.

Abduvaliev's dismissal came on January 12, 2025. He was released from prison due to illness under Article 75 of the Criminal Code, which allows for the release of individuals who are no longer fit to serve their sentence due to health reasons.
