The former head of the Uzbekistan SSR Rafiq Nishonov has passed away

Former First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan SSR (Soviet Socialistic Republic) Rafiq Nishonov has died at the age of 96.

For reference, Rafiq Nishonov was born on 15 January 1926 in the village of Gazalkent, Bustanlyk district.  He graduated from the Tashkent Pedagogical Institute with a major in history.  In 1956, he was the head of one of the departments of the Tashkent City Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan.

In 1970, he was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to Sri Lanka and at the same time to the Republic of the Maldives, and switched to diplomatic work.  Since 1978, he had been the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to Jordan.

In 1985, Rafiq Nishonov took the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Uzbek SSR.  From 12 January 1988 to 23 June 1989 - worked as the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Uzbekistan SSR.  After that, he moved to Moscow.  In September 1991, he became an adviser to the President of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev.

Nishonov retired from his career in 1991.

It should be noted that the political figure died only 4 days before his 97th birthday.

It should be recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Nishonov with the Order of "Alexander Nevsky".
