Former Tashkent regional governor returns to work in the government system

Rustam Kurbannazarovich Kholmatov has been appointed chief specialist for improving irrigation systems and compensation for damages in the Directorate for Servicing Leased Agricultural Lands under the Tashkent regional governor, the press service reported.

Kholmatov was born in 1961 in the Akkurgan district of the Tashkent region. In 1987, he graduated from the Tashkent Institute of National Economy. He served as mayor of Chinaz district from 1998 to 2000, first deputy governor of Tashkent region and head of the regional Department of Agriculture and Water Management from 2000 to 2003, mayor of Kuyi Chirchik district from 2003 to 2008, and governor of Tashkent region from 2008 to 2013.

He later worked as governor of the Bekabad district in 2016–2017, deputy governor of Jizzakh region for agriculture and water management in 2017–2018, and first deputy governor of the Tashkent region for agriculture and water management in 2018–2019. Kholmatov also served as acting governor of the Tashkent region from 2019 and as governor of the region in 2020–2021.

On January 30, 2021, he was dismissed from the post of governor of the Tashkent region in accordance with a presidential decree. Later, he was elected chairman of the Republican Council of the Trade Union of Agro-Industrial Complex Workers. During an extraordinary session of the Tashkent Regional Council of People’s Deputies on March 19, 2021, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that Kholmatov had resigned from his post of his own accord.
