Shavkat Mirziyoyev receives Director General of Rosatom Corporation

Today, January 27, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom. This was reported by the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

It was noted that during the meeting, the parties discussed practical aspects of implementing the project to construct an integrated nuclear power plant in the country, as well as issues related to expanding cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

It was expressed with satisfaction that groundwork for the construction of the first low-capacity reactor building began in October last year. Design work on the power plant is currently ongoing.

In addition, last year an advanced engineering school specializing in nuclear energy and nuclear technologies was launched on the basis of the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI.”

Special attention was also paid to the development of cooperation in the application of nuclear technologies in agriculture and medicine, the training of qualified specialists in the field, the advancement of science, and the implementation of social projects.
