Shavkat Mirziyoyev invites Fumio Kisida to Uzbekistan

Today, 29 April, the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Yoshimasa Hayasi, who is staying in the country within the framework of an official visit.  This is reported by the press service of the president’s office.

During the meeting, matters discussed included issues of further expansion of multifaceted Uzbek-Japanese cooperation.  It was noted with great satisfaction that Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s high-level visit to Tokyo in December 2019 had marked a new stage in strengthening the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and enriched cooperation with concrete content.

“In recent years, the number of joint ventures and projects in Uzbekistan has multiplied by attracting direct investment from leading Japanese companies in the development of energy and tourism infrastructure, including high-tech industry.  The portfolio of joint programs in the participation of financial support of Japanese development and cooperation institutions has exceeded $7 billion” - the report says.

Stressing the importance of continuing efficient negotiations at the highest level, the president confirmed the invitation of the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kisida, to visit Uzbekistan on an official visit.

The parties expressed their interest in strengthening constructive regional cooperation in the “Central Asia+Japan” format, especially in the areas of economic interdependence, alternative energy and ecology.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Yosimasa Hayasi stated that the government of Japan fully supports the reform strategy in New Uzbekistan.

In addition, the country’s efforts to provide stable peace in Afghanistan and to contribute to the country’s economic recovery were commended.

For reference, this visit is taking place in the year of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Japan and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership.
