Today, 14 September, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan received the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding Rosemary DiCarlo, who came to the country to participate in the SCO Samarkand Summit.

There was a detailed exchange of views on promising areas of practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations, pressing international problems and efforts to achieve the country’s sustainable development goals until 2030.

Rosemary DiCarlo thanked President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the warm welcome.  Welcoming UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, he expressed support for the reforms implemented within the framework of the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy 2022-2026.

It was noted with satisfaction that in recent years, Uzbekistan’s participation in United Nations structures had increased.  On the initiative of our country, five resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly were adopted, aimed at developing regional cooperation and interdependence.

In 2020-2021, Uzbekistan chaired the 32nd FAO Regional Conference of Europe and Central Asia, became a member of the UN Human Rights Council and UNESCO's Preschool Education.    It was emphasized that it is planning to hold the World Conference on Tourism and the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UN WTO).

The parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in eliminating the consequences of the Aral Sea disaster, establishing peace in Afghanistan and implementing projects to assist the Afghan people, promoting sustainable development in Central Asia and strengthening interdependence.
