The Senate approves a law on the functioning of the State Security Service

Today, 17 March, the 24th plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) discussed the law «On cybersecurity» in Uzbekistan.

The law consists of 8 chapters and 40 articles, which specify the purpose, objectives, basic concepts, principles, and directions, methods of combating cybercrime, the responsible state body and its powers, cybersecurity and issues of international cooperation.

In particular, the purpose of the law is to regulate cybersecurity relations in the country, and the main function of it is to protect the interests of individuals, society, and the State in cyberspace from external and internal threats.
The law uses the concepts of cybercrime, cyber threat, cybersecurity and cyberattacks, and defines the basic principles of cybersecurity and the main directions of the state policy in this sphere.

In addition, the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been designated by the competent State body in the sphere of cybersecurity and its rights and obligations have been strengthened.
The law sets out the rights and obligations of State bodies and organizations to ensure cybersecurity.
It is stipulated that the rights and obligations of security entities are subject to mandatory verification based on their compliance with the requirements of cybersecurity or on the initiative of security entities.

The law strengthens a number of measures aimed at investigating cybercrime, taking action and disclosing incidents:

- The adoption of the law is primarily important for the security of the individual, society, and the State;
- Secondly, it makes a significant contribution to the State regulation of cybersecurity, improvement of the legal, organizational, scientific, technical and regulatory framework, ensuring the integrity of information systems and resources;
- Third, the law prevents unauthorized actions, destruction, alterations, forgery, copying, blocking and other forms of undue interference with the country’s information systems and networks.

The law has been approved by the senators.
