Our laws will no longer have a list of persons with limited voting rights. Today, on 9 March, at the plenary session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament), MP Jakhongir Shirinov said this while explaining the draft of the constitutional law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan".

According to him, this is a revolutionary innovation in the use of voting rights of citizens.

"According to the proposal to be included in our constitution, our laws will no longer contain a list of persons with the limited right to vote. Only citizens who have been declared incompetent by the court, as well as persons detained in places of deprivation of liberty according to the judgment of the court for committing serious and extremely serious crimes, may be deprived of the right to participate in the election only in accordance with the law and on the basis of the court's decision, Shirinov said.

The above-mentioned persons cannot take part in the election only if their right to vote is limited by a court decision, at any other time they have the right to vote.

It was reported at the meeting that the constitutional norms regarding the establishment of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan and its activities are reflected in a separate new article.
