Man sentenced to prison for striking nearly ten people at pedestrian crossing

A 28-year-old man in Samarkand who drove his Lacetti into pedestrians crossing a crosswalk has been sentenced to seven years in prison, Millar reported.

The incident occurred on April 11 at around 8:00 p.m. The man, born in 1997, was driving his Lacetti along Rudaki Street in the Nurli Yul municipal district of Samarkand when he struck several pedestrians at a designated crossing. The victims were taken to the hospital and received medical assistance. One person later died from their injuries.

The driver’s case was heard by the Samarkand City Criminal Court.

He was convicted under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation) and sentenced to seven years in prison. Additionally, he was deprived of the right to drive vehicles for three years.

It is worth noting that earlier, in the Shorchi district of the Surkhandarya region, a Damas struck four people crossing a pedestrian crossing. The injured pedestrians were taken to a district medical facility for treatment.
