A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States began in Samarkand

Today, on 14 April, a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS MFA Council), the main executive body that ensures cooperation between the CIS member states, began in Samarkand.  This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergey Aleynik, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan – the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeyenbek.  Kulubayev, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Khojiyev, Uzbekistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, and the CIS General Secretary Sergey Lebedev.

The participants will discuss current issues of mutual cooperation in the CIS format and the international agenda.

It should be recalled that yesterday, on 13 April, a meeting of ministers of countries neighboring Afghanistan took place in Samarkand under the chairmanship of Uzbekistan.  Delegations of Uzbekistan, Iran, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan took part in it.  Before the meeting, the foreign ministers of Russia, China, Iran and Pakistan had 4-way talks, in which the parties came to the conclusion that the USA is responsible for the current situation in Afghanistan.
