A human rights defender was caught with a bribe in Samarkand

A lawyer was caught while accepting a bribe in Samarkand region.  This was reported by the Department of Internal Affairs of the region.

A.U., who works as a lawyer in "YULDUZ" law firm, was detained at a quick event being held in cooperation with the employees of the Samarkand regional office of the State Security Service, the regional prosecutor's office, and the regional office of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes.  He was caught while accepting a bribe.

It is noted that A.U. participated as a lawyer in the cases under consideration in court offices, and brought a large amount of money from citizens in exchange for a positive resolution of the cases through "mediation" through his close contacts working in the court system.

In particular, he demanded 1,500 US dollars from the Payarik Interdistrict Court on Civil Affairs regarding the annulment of the legal marriage of a local citizen and his spouse.

At the impromptu event, lawyer A.U. was caught while receiving 1300 dollars of the agreed amount from this citizen.

Currently, investigations are being conducted to initiate a criminal case against A.U. under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code.
