Russian language training, calculations in the national currency... What does the future hold for Uzbekistan with Russia?

Uzbekistan has achieved an agreement with the Russian Federation on trade and economic relations, oil supplies, agricultural products and settlements in the national currency.  They are reflected in the declaration on comprehensive strategic partnership signed by Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vladimir Putin on 15 September in Samarkand, within the framework of the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.  According to the document, Moscow and Tashkent are planning associate projects to improve the quality of teaching the Russian language in Uzbekistan.

Trade and economic relations

According to the declaration, Moscow and Tashkent will continue to deepen trade and economic relations between the regions of the two countries.

"Mutual participation in exhibition-fair events, business missions between the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and the administrative-territorial structures of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as their economic entities, direct trade and economic relations by exchanging information about the enterprises (organizations) registered in the territories of the parties interested in the establishment of trade relations and about the products put on sale, will continue to deepen," the declaration reads.

Oil feed

Moscow and Tashkent will deepen cooperation in the field of energy, including oil supplies to Uzbekistan.

"The parties noted the positive dynamics of cooperation in the field of energy, in particular, the high level of mutual cooperation between oil and gas companies of the two countries, deepening cooperation in the field of geology and exploration, oil production in fields that are difficult to exploit , exchange experience and personnel training in the field of oil and gas industry, as well as make joint efforts on issues of oil supply to Uzbekistan," is said  in the document.        

Russia and Uzbekistan are also ready to expand cooperation on projects in the field of energy efficiency, construction of new power generation capacity and modernization of existing ones. Both countries intend to deepen cooperation within the framework of the CIS Electricity Council.
In addition, the parties «strive for further expansion of cooperation in the sphere of peaceful use of nuclear energy»  They will continue to train national personnel in nuclear energy.

Agricultural delivery

It is clear from the declaration that the parties will continue to work on creating favorable conditions for increasing the volume of mutual supplies of agricultural products several times.

«The parties will continue to create favorable conditions for increasing the volume and range of mutual deliveries of agricultural products and food products to the markets of the two countries», - said the document.

Local currency calculations

Russia and Uzbekistan note the importance of increasing the share of national currencies in bilateral settlements.

"The parties support the further strengthening of cooperation in the financial and banking sector, establishing continuous settlements between credit organizations of the two countries, including the establishment of direct representative relations, as well as external.  They note the importance of increasing the share of national currencies in bilateral settlements, taking into account the interests of business entities carrying out trade operations," said the document. 

Russian language teaching

Moscow and Tashkent are planning associate projects to improve the quality of Russian language teaching in Uzbekistan.

«The parties plan to implement joint projects aimed at improving the quality of teaching of the Russian language and general education subjects in the Republic of Uzbekistan, exchange of experience and best practice of teaching», - said the document.

They intend to expand the network of branches of Russian universities in Uzbekistan.

The parties are also benefitting from the intensifying cooperation between the leading state and non-state mass media, telecommunication companies of the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan.
