An Uzbek migrant worker died after being struck by a falling metal bucket filled with cement mortar at a construction site in the Vsevolozhsk district of Russia's Leningrad region. The incident was reported by the news outlet “78.ru.”
According to available information, on June 1, emergency service 112 received a call reporting that a brick had fallen on a worker’s head at the “Nevskaya Dolina” construction site in the village of Novosaratovka. Upon arrival, responders discovered that a multi-storey building was under construction at the site.
A 69-year-old security guard stated that a 34-year-old Uzbek national, who was performing finishing work at the time, was hit in the head by a falling metal bucket containing cement mortar. The worker sustained multiple injuries and was transported to the Vsevolozhsk polyclinic, where he later died from his injuries.
Surveillance footage from the scene shows an unidentified individual looking out from a sixth-floor window of the building under construction at 11:47 a.m. The person then reached out and dropped the bucket.
The Investigative Committee of the Leningrad Region has launched a criminal case on the grounds of violating safety regulations during work activities, resulting in the death of a worker.
"Investigative measures are currently underway to determine the full circumstances of the incident, as well as the factors that led to the worker's death," the committee said in a statement.
It also noted that investigators will identify the employees responsible for ensuring safety at the construction site.
It is worth noting that this is not an isolated incident. On May 23 of this year, a 28-year-old Uzbek worker died after falling from the sixth floor of a building under construction in St. Petersburg. A criminal case was also initiated in connection with that incident.
