Russia and Uzbekistan have a very close position regarding the recognition of the current realities in Afghanistan and the need to work with the current leadership on the basis of these realities.  Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, who is on an official visit to Uzbekistan, reported the TV channel “Uzbekistan 24” about this.

According to Lavrov, he and the leader of Uzbekistan discussed all the main areas of cooperation between the two countries.  The diplomat said that all of them refer to the agreements reached by Vladimir Putin and Shavkat Mirziyoyev in 2021.

“These agreements cover all spheres, from trade-economic, investment, financial cooperation, the need for a creative approach to servicing trade and other economic relations in modern conditions, to education”, - Sergey Lavrov said.

During the talks, a lot of time was devoted to the SCO summit scheduled for September.  Another important topic - is Afghanistan.

“We have a very close position with our Uzbek friends regarding the need to recognize the current reality in Afghanistan and to work with the current leadership based on these realities,” said Lavrov.

It should be remembered that on 27 July Sergey Lavrov arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the meeting of the council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

On 28 July, president of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation headed by Sergey Lavrov.  After that, Lavrov held talks with the head of the presidential administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov.
