Russia and Uzbekistan are actively negotiating to significantly increase the supply of both gas and electricity to Uzbekistan. Russian Minister of Energy Sergey Tsivilyov discussed this in an interview with “Birinchi.”

"Not only the gas supply but also the electricity supply will increase significantly," stated the minister.

He noted that the delivery volume is currently under negotiation.

Following discussions with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced today that Russian experts will build two battery power stations in Uzbekistan's lakes These facilities will help stabilize the Central Asian Republic's energy balance.

Electricity supply in Central Asia relies on the interconnected energy ring established in 1980 when all regional republics were part of the USSR. This system prevents electricity shortages by redistributing power as needed, and battery stations will support this effort.

In June 2023, Uzbekistan signed a two-year contract with “Gazprom” to purchase 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas annually, equating to 9 million cubic meters per day. In December 2023, at Tashkent's request, the Russian company doubled this supply. Gas is transported through the "Central Asia-Center" pipeline via Kazakhstan. From 2026, the transit volume of Russian gas to Uzbekistan is expected to quadruple to 11 billion cubic meters annually.

In the first quarter of this year, Uzbekistan imported 2.4 times more natural gas ($207.3 million) compared to the same period last year.
