A video conference chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on poverty reduction and employment issues has resulted in the dismissal of two district heads and their first deputies. The officials removed from office represented one district each from Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions.

The meeting reviewed efforts to increase household incomes, reduce poverty and unemployment, and set priority tasks for 2026.

The Denov district administration was criticized for neglecting its responsibilities. Since joining the registry of low-income families, 1,200 households have seen no change in income.

In Chiroqchi district, 309 billion soums were allocated this year as credit to support entrepreneurship in local communities. However, the district authorities failed to provide projects suited to the residents’ needs.

As a result, Denov district head Ilhom Abrorov, his first deputy Sh. To‘raq ulov, Chiroqchi district head Fayzulla Yusupov, and his first deputy Zafar Ergashov were dismissed.

The President highlighted Uzun district in Surkhandarya as an example of successful regional development. With 51 neighborhoods, the district received 160 billion soums this year under poverty reduction and employment programs.

Uzun district attracted $70 million in foreign investment, launched 47 enterprises, and created jobs for 1,000 people across 300 service facilities. Nine neighborhoods specialized in viticulture, establishing cooperatives between entrepreneurs and residents, and over 2,000 microprojects generated income for 4,200 people.

As a result, poverty in Uzun district fell from 10.5 percent at the beginning of the year to 3 percent.
