President receives IMF Deputy Managing Director

On June 29, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Bo Li, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, who arrived in the country to attend the next meeting of the IMF’s “Swiss Constituency.” The presidential press service reported this.

It was noted that at the beginning of the meeting, Bo Li conveyed to the head of state the sincere greetings and best wishes of IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.

The current state of global financial markets and prospects for their development were discussed.

The parties reviewed key aspects of further strengthening practical cooperation with this prestigious international institution, primarily within the framework of agreements reached during the meeting with the IMF head in New York last September.

It was noted that the Fund plays an important role in the large-scale reforms being implemented in the country in areas such as improving monetary, foreign exchange and fiscal policy.

The need to further expand expert and technical assistance was emphasized in areas including macroeconomic policy strategy, the development of digital payment systems, liberalization of capital flows, improvement of national statistics methodology and public revenue management, as well as support for a free exchange rate.

Special attention was paid to developing training programs for personnel of the country’s economic agencies.
