On March 19, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with representatives of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) to discuss ways to enhance their role in the economy and take their development to a new level. During the meeting, key issues such as competitiveness, entering new markets, training in standards and innovations, creating brands, and fostering startups were addressed. The President supported the initiative to establish a Small Business Association.
It was emphasized that a comprehensive system, involving local government assistants, community bankers, banks, the Minister of Employment, and Deputy Prime Ministers, has been mobilized to support small businesses. Regional governors were instructed to establish effective communication with business representatives and promptly resolve systemic issues raised by them.
The President engaged directly with small and medium business representatives, listened to their suggestions, and issued relevant instructions to officials.
“We trust you to enhance the business potential of New Uzbekistan.
Rest assured: the President will always be your closest supporter, pillar, and ally. Never tire of innovating, and I will never tire of supporting you.
To this end, I will sign a decree today that incorporates all your proposals and initiatives discussed. The decree’s benefits will be implemented immediately, without waiting for additional documents,” the President stated.
A five-year strategy outlining the next steps for small businesses in Uzbekistan has been developed. It was noted that international financial institutions are also supporting this initiative by helping introduce advanced practices, innovations, technologies, and international standards in new business directions. These institutions have already committed $470 million in resources.
Financial Support Highlights:
- The Asian Development Bank will allocate $100 million under the “Financial Inclusion” program for small and medium businesses.
- The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will provide $200 million for “green” and innovative projects.
- The French Development Agency will allocate €30 million to support women entrepreneurs.
During the meeting, representatives of these organizations’ offices in Uzbekistan shared their views and proposals. The President expressed gratitude for their support and emphasized that all necessary conditions would be created to expand cooperation further.
It was also revealed that in 15 districts and cities of Uzbekistan, all state institutions will be relocated to a single multi-story building in the district centers. Additionally, 150 buildings vacated by state institutions in these districts will be offered to entrepreneurs through auctions.
