By order of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the governor and prosecutor of the Chilanzar district of Tashkent city were relieved of their post. This was reported by the press secretary of the president’s office Sherzod Asadov.
It is noted that on 8 August, a selector meeting was held under the leadership of the head of the presidential administration Sardor Umurzakov. It strongly criticized the destruction of trees that occurred in the city of Tashkent and sparked a strong public outcry.
“Governor (khokim) of Chilanzar district of Tashkent Mavlonov Sh. and Prosecutor Bozorov I. were relieved of their posts by presidential order” - the report said.
Governor Jakhongir Ortikhodjaev and the prosecutor Ulugbek Kasimov were also severely reprimanded for their irresponsibility.
It should be recalled that during the reconstruction of Chilanzor Street in Tashkent, the roots of seven oak trees were damaged. Criminal proceedings were instituted under part 3, article 198 of the Criminal Code (damage or destruction of fields, forests, trees, or other plantations) and investigative actions are being carried out.
