The Asian Development Bank will lend another $161 million to Uzbekistan

7590The Asian Development Bank allocates 161 million dollars to water supply projects in Uzbekistan. It is stated in the decision that the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted on 2 August this year “On the measures for the implementation of the project “Construction and reconstruction of drinking water and sanitation systems of cities and districts of Tashkent region (3rd stage)” with the participation of the Asian Development Bank”.
The document is aimed at increasing the level of provision of drinking and water sanitation services to the population and business entities in the cities of Angren, Bekabad, Almalyk, Okhangaron, Chirchik, and Yangiyul of the Tashkent region, as well as in the center of the Chinoz district, also further improvement of sanitation epidemiological and ecological status of these territories, as well as for further cooperation with the Asian Development Bank.
A credit agreement in the amount of 161 million USD between the Republic of Uzbekistan and ADB for the implementation of the project “construction and reconstruction of drinking water and sanitation systems of cities and districts of the Tashkent region (3rd stage)” with the condition of repayment in 25 years, including a 5-year grace period was signed.
The total cost of the project is $185.8 million, including:
• ADB (Asian Development Bank) debt - $161 million;
• the share of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the form of reimbursement of value added tax and customs benefits in the implementation of the project - 24.8 million dollars;
• the project implementation period is 5 years (2022-2027).
"Uzsuvtaminot" JSC was designated as the executive body responsible for ensuring the timely implementation of the necessary organizational and technical measures and for the timely and high-quality implementation of the project, as well as the targeted and effective use of ADB debt.
The governance of Tashkent region together with "Uzsuvtaminot" JSC is responsible for the quality implementation of the project, the achievement of the specified indicators, and the repayment of ADB debt.
The followings have been confirmed:
• The main technical and economic parameters of the study of the project "Construction and reconstruction of drinking and wastewater systems in cities and districts of Tashkent region (Phase 3)";
• Forecast schedule of Asian Development Bank debt repayment, interest, and mediation fee payment within the project;
• Forecast of the distribution of shares to cover the costs of servicing the debt of the Asian Development Bank within the framework of the project;
• "Roadmap" for the financial recovery of "Tashkent water supply" LLC.
