3833Starting this year, the Aral Sea Culture Summit will take place every 18 months, either in spring or autumn. This is outlined in the presidential decree "On Holding the Aral Sea Culture Summit at a High Level," adopted on March 28.
According to the decree, the first Aral Sea Culture Summit will be held in the cities of Samarkand and Nukus on April 4-6, 2025, in conjunction with the Samarkand Climate Forum.
One of the summit’s main objectives is to establish a global platform for discussing environmental issues and developing sustainable solutions for the Aral Sea region and other affected areas worldwide.
An organizing committee has been formed to oversee the preparation and execution of the summit.
For reference, Uzbekistan proposed the Aral Sea Culture Summit initiative at the UN Conference on Water Resources, held in New York from March 22-24, 2023.
It is also worth noting that the first Samarkand Climate Forum will take place at the Silk Road Samarkand Congress Center on April 4-5. The forum is expected to be attended by the leaders of Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, along with representatives from the European Union, the UN, international financial institutions, and leading environmental organizations.
