Man detained for misappropriating charity donations

A 22-year-old man has been detained in the Tashkent region for allegedly misappropriating charity funds by editing videos of sick children on Instagram, the regional Department of Internal Affairs reported.

According to authorities, the suspect, born in 2004 and residing in the Bukhara region, downloaded donation videos posted on Instagram on behalf of sick children. He then edited and remounted the videos.

The suspect allegedly replaced the original bank card numbers shown in the videos with different card details and appropriated the funds transferred by citizens.

Preliminary investigations indicate that from October 2022 until he was exposed, the individual received nearly 2,000 transactions totaling 161 million soums to a bank card belonging to his mother. The funds were reportedly spent on personal needs.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 168, Part 3(g) of the Criminal Code (fraud), and investigative actions are ongoing.

Earlier, authorities reported the detention of a person in Tashkent who had stolen money from a charity donation box.
