An official serving as a department head in the Ahangaran city government (mayor’s office) of the Tashkent region has been detained for allegedly abusing his position and soliciting a bribe in exchange for resolving a legal matter through the court system. The incident was reported by the State Security Service.

According to the report, the official exploited the trust of a local citizen born in 1958. He promised to have a three-room apartment—planned to be transferred to the government's balance—registered under the citizen’s name, using his alleged connections in the judicial system.

In return, the official demanded a total of \$18,500: \$15,000 as the agreed value of the apartment and an additional \$3,500 supposedly to be given to his contacts in the judiciary.

He was caught red-handed by special agents while receiving a \$9,500 advance payment as part of the deal. Material evidence was secured at the time of arrest.

A criminal case has been opened against the official, and a preventive detention measure has been applied. Investigations are ongoing.

It is worth noting that earlier, an investigative judge in the Yangiarik district of Khorezm region was also detained after demanding \$15,000 from a citizen in exchange for an acquittal, using intermediaries.
