This confirmation took place on November 5 during the first session of the seventh convocation of the Navoi Regional Council of People's Deputies, as reported by the regional government press service.
The session began with an update on the October 27 election results, presented by the chairman of the regional election commission. Following a consultation, Normat Tursunov was unanimously confirmed as governor. Governors are appointed for a five-year term, with the law stipulating that they cannot serve more than two consecutive terms in the same region.
According to Article 123 of the Constitution, governors are responsible for implementing the Constitution and national laws, decisions by the chambers of the Oliy Majlis, presidential decrees and orders, and Cabinet decisions. Their duties also include fostering economic, social, cultural, and environmental progress in their regions and managing the regional budget.
Tursunov’s career began in 1994 in the state tax service. He has since held various roles, including deputy head of the state tax department in the Jizzakh region, head of the state tax department in the Navoi region, deputy chairman of the State Tax Committee, and head of the Tashkent State Tax Department. He became acting governor of Navoi in 2021 and was officially appointed as governor in 2022.
