Chess elite gather in Romania: Abdusattorov among competitors

Uzbek grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov is set to participate in the prestigious classical chess tournament taking place in Bucharest, Romania, from May 7 to May 16. The “UzChess” project’s press service reported the news.
According to sources, the tournament—part of the Grand Chess Tour 2025 series—is titled Superbet Chess Classic Romania and boasts a prize fund of $350,000. Abdusattorov will be competing among the world’s elite grandmasters for the top prize.
The competition will feature reigning world champion Gukesh Dommaraju from India, alongside chess luminaries such as Fabiano Caruana, Rameshbabu Praggnanandha, Alireza Firouzja, Wesley So, Levon Aronian, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, and local representative Bogdan-Daniel Deac.
The tournament winner will be determined based on results across nine rounds.
