President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev sharply criticized university rectors during a meeting with young people held on February 24 at the Kuksaroy residence.

The President focused specifically on the quality of education and the employment of graduates, issuing a warning to higher education leaders.

“I once again warn the rectors. After working for four or five years, if a rector has failed to ensure employment for students, do they have the right to remain in their position? This question troubles me. Why doesn’t every student who studies at a university secure a job? Why does a pupil who has studied at school for 11 years fail to master at least one foreign language?” the President said.

Earlier, it was reported that every Thursday will be observed as “Youth Day” in ministries, agencies, and local administrations across Uzbekistan.
