9025An 8-year-old girl tragically died after being struck by a high-speed BYD Song Plus Champion car in the Khatirchi district of Navoi region. Following the incident, two drivers were arrested, as reported by the MIA Road Safety Service.
On July 1, citizen N.A., driving a BYD Song car, was allegedly racing with another BYD Song car driven by an unknown citizen F.A. As they approached an unregulated pedestrian crossing, the 8-year-old girl, Sh.Sh., was first struck by N.A.'s car and then pushed under F.A.'s car.
The Road Safety Service noted that the day before the incident, the girl's mother, M.Sh., had taken her to her grandfather's home in the Yangirabad neighborhood before heading to work in Tashkent. The grandparents allowed their 14-year-old son to take the girl to the park.
The incident occurred when the boy crossed the pedestrian crossing first and called for the girl, who lagged behind. The girl ran toward the crossing without noticing the oncoming vehicles, leading to the fatal accident.
The girl, a 2nd-grade student, died on the scene due to her injuries. A criminal case was filed against the drivers on the same day under Article 266, Part 2 of the Criminal Code for violating vehicle safety rules resulting in a death. The drivers were arrested on July 4, and a detention measure was applied on July 5.
It was revealed that driver N.A. had committed 12 speeding violations and one lane violation in the past year. Driver F.A. had also committed an infraction by allowing someone without a valid driver's license to operate a vehicle.
“The pedestrian crossing where the accident occurred had appropriate road markings and lines, with dry road conditions and daylight at the time,” the report stated.
The installation of a push-button traffic light at this crossing is planned by the District Road Use State Institution by the end of the first quarter of 2024. However, it has been delayed due to funding issues.
The Navoi region Traffic Safety Department has submitted requests for the installation of two push-button traffic lights in 2024. Due to the failure to meet the application requirements, an administrative report was issued to the head of the Khatirchi district road use unitary enterprise based on Article 196 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility.
