Individuals involved in the sale of counterfeit currency were detained during an operation in Namangan region. The State Security Service reported this.
According to the report, three citizens — two residents of Yangikurgan district born in 1992 and 1995, and one resident of Turakurgan district born in 1980 — planned to sell a total of $100,000 in counterfeit $100 banknotes for $40,000 in genuine currency.
During an operation conducted jointly by the Tashkent and Namangan regional departments of the State Security Service and officers of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, the suspects were caught with physical evidence while selling $80,000 in counterfeit currency for $40,000 in genuine money.
During the pre-investigation check, it was established that the counterfeit currency had been produced abroad and brought into the country through various channels.
A criminal case has been opened against the suspects, and investigative actions are underway.
Earlier, it was reported that a person had been detained in Khanabad, Andijan region, while attempting to sell counterfeit money to a citizen of a neighboring country for $3,520 in genuine currency.
