Mayor’s assistant in Namangan attempted to sell 0.9 hectares of land for $4,500

In Pop District of Namangan Region, a hokim’s assistant attempted to sell 0.9 hectares of land from the state reserve for $4,500. The State Security Service (SSS) reported.

According to the report, a hokim’s assistant at one of the neighborhood citizens’ assemblies in Pop District received $4,500 in 2025 from an individual planning to engage in entrepreneurship, in exchange for arranging the allocation of 0.9 hectares of state reserve land for the future construction of a wedding hall and preparing the necessary documentation.

However, after failing to fulfill the promised arrangements, the previously convicted hokim’s assistant was detained by officers of the State Security Service and the Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office while returning 1.2 million soums out of the $4,500 received.

A criminal case has been initiated against the hokim’s assistant under Article 168, Part 3, subparagraphs “a” and “v” of the Criminal Code (Fraud), and investigative actions are currently under way.

Earlier, it was reported that in Tashkent Region, an environmental official was detained while receiving $3,000 in exchange for granting permission to cut down long-standing trees.
