On September 14, Japanese boxer and undisputed world champion Naoya Inoue entered the ring to defend his titles against Uzbek boxer Murodjon Akhmadaliev at the IG Arena in Nagoya, Japan.
The Ring Magazine, WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF belts held by Inoue were at stake. The fight was intense, with Inoue working hard to retain his belts and Akhmadaliev managing to land several accurate punches. However, Akhmadaliev also missed a number of Inoue’s heavy blows. According to the judges’ final decision, Murodjon Akhmadaliev lost the bout.
The total purse for the Inoue–Akhmadaliev fight was set at approximately $20 million, with Inoue receiving a 75/25 split as “Side A.” Inoue earned the biggest payday of his career at $15 million. His previous highest purse was $7 million for a fight against Ye Joon Kim.
As the challenger and “Side B,” Murodjon Akhmadaliev earned over \$5 million for this fight — the largest sum of his career, as he had never previously received more than $1 million.
It is worth noting that earlier this year, a major night of professional boxing took place in Las Vegas, USA. American undefeated boxer Terence Crawford, who competes in the lightweight, welterweight, super welterweight, and middleweight divisions, faced Mexican boxer Saul Alvarez in the super welterweight category. Crawford, who had previously defeated Isroil Madrimov, won again by unanimous decision (116-112, 115-113, 115-113), securing the WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, and The Ring belts.
