Mubashshir Ahmad's trial begins

The trial in the criminal case against religious scholar and blogger Mubashshir Ahmad (Alisher Tursunov), founder of the analytical news portal “Azon Global,” began today, August 19, at the Uchtepa District Criminal Court of Tashkent city, the “Azon Global” news portal reported.

The court session started at 15:03.

It is stated that a criminal case had been initiated against Alisher Tursunov under Articles 244-1 (preparation, storage, distribution, or display of materials posing a threat to public safety and public order) and 244-3 (preparation, storage, import, or distribution of religious materials in violation of the law) of the Criminal Code. Pre-trial detention has been applied.

Additionally, in May of this year, Alisher Tursunov was taken from his home in the Bahcesehir district of Istanbul as a suspect. Later, reports circulated on social media that he had been extradited from Turkey to Uzbekistan. Subsequently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan officially confirmed his extradition.

It is worth noting that earlier, Mubashshir Ahmad’s lawyer, Ruslan Sodiqov, announced that the criminal case against his client had been brought before the court.
