Mirziyoyev meets with President of South Korea and invites him to Uzbekistan

On September 23, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-myung on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

During the meeting, the parties discussed ways to further strengthen the special strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and South Korea and expand multifaceted cooperation.

It was noted with satisfaction that significant progress has been achieved in bilateral cooperation in recent years, with exchanges and dialogues at all levels becoming more active.

High praise was given to the fruitful partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency, Korea Eximbank, and its funds, with the total project portfolio reaching $3.5 billion.

The two sides agreed to prepare a new long-term program for technological and industrial partnership, which envisions the deep processing of key raw materials and the implementation of joint projects in chemistry, mechanical engineering, agriculture, transport, aviation, biotechnology, and other priority sectors.

They also emphasized the importance of ensuring the effective organization of the upcoming meeting of the intergovernmental commission.

Views were exchanged on regional cooperation, including within the “Central Asia – Republic of Korea” format.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan invited the President of South Korea to pay a state visit to Uzbekistan.

It is worth noting that on the same day, September 23, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also held talks with U.S. President Donald Trump. The leaders discussed in detail the pressing issues and priorities for further expanding the Uzbek-American strategic partnership.
