Mirziyoyev receives EBRD president ahead of Foreign Investors Council meeting

On June 11, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Odile Renou-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), on the eve of the third meeting of the Foreign Investors Council. The meeting was announced by the presidential press service.
The discussion focused on deepening strategic cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EBRD, a key international financial institution actively supporting the country’s reform agenda.
It was noted with satisfaction that the volume of joint projects continues to grow. EBRD investments in Uzbekistan have now exceeded €5.5 billion. An additional €1.1 billion is expected to be mobilized this year, with a significant portion aimed at supporting the private sector.
The effective implementation of the current partnership strategy was highlighted. The EBRD has played an instrumental role in the transformation of Uzbekistan’s banking sector.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to further enhance cooperation and outlined key priorities moving forward. These include:
- Technological modernization of the water supply system,
- Implementation of energy efficiency programs,
- Development of the mortgage market and infrastructure in free economic zones,
- Expansion of opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs),
- Support for women’s entrepreneurship.
Special attention was also given to promoting public-private partnership (PPP) projects in education and healthcare, advancing the use of artificial intelligence, and supporting startups in the digital economy.
The sides also discussed the agenda for the upcoming third meeting of the Foreign Investors Council, which aims to attract foreign capital and expertise to Uzbekistan’s key sectors.
