Mirziyoyev signed an agreement with Turkey on the exchange of prisoners

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the law named: "Ratification of the agreement on the transfer of prisoners between the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the government of the Republic of Turkey"

The document was adopted by the Legislative Chamber on 18 October 2022.  Approved by the Senate on 27 December 2022.

The law on the ratification of this international agreement creates a legal basis and opportunity for the citizens of Uzbekistan and Turkey to serve the sentence imposed by the court in their country.

According to this legal document, convicts are released based on the appeals of the parties by the procedures established by the law.

During the discussion, the senators emphasized that by serving the sentence in their own country and society the convicts can see their loved ones regularly, which has a positive effect on family relations and also helps the convicts to adapt to the social life of society. 

It was noted in the Senate that the adoption of the law will allow more effective protection of the rights and interests of citizens, and will serve to strengthen the positive influence of the republic in the international arena.

It should be recalled that this agreement was signed on 30 March 2022, during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
