On September 22, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as reported by the President's press service.

Mirziyoyev warmly congratulated Berdimuhamedov on his birthday, wishing him good health, happiness, and continued success. He also extended well wishes for peace and prosperity to the people of Turkmenistan.

During the call, the two leaders discussed ways to further develop and strengthen the friendship, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. They expressed satisfaction with the ongoing political dialogue and effective interdepartmental relations, including cooperation within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission.

Additionally, they reviewed current regional issues and outlined plans for future joint activities.

For context, Serdar Berdimuhamedov is the only son of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the second president of Turkmenistan. Born on September 22, 1981, in Ashgabat, he was nominated by the ruling Democratic Party in February 2022 for the presidency. His father chose not to seek re-election, citing a desire to "make way for younger leaders." Serdar Berdimuhamedov won the March 2022 election with 72.97% of the vote, although the election was deemed fraudulent by many international observers.
