Mirziyoyev meets Modi in Kazan

3089On October 23, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Kazan. The President's press service reported the meeting.
During the discussions, both leaders addressed the expansion of the Uzbekistan-India strategic partnership and multilateral cooperation.
Implementing programs and projects in high technology, artificial intelligence, industry, energy, pharmaceuticals, and transport communications was particularly important.
The leaders agreed to hold the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and a business forum later this year and to adopt a medium-term program for industrial cooperation.
“An offer was made to organize joint cultural and cinematic events, as well as collaborations in medicine and sports, with active participation from the youth, including through parliamentary youth organizations,” the report stated.
Plans for upcoming high-level events were also discussed.
For context, Mirziyoyev and Modi last met in Dubai on December 1 of the previous year. Before that, they met on September 16, 2022, during Modi’s visit to Samarkand for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. Mirziyoyev also visited India in 2018 and 2019, and they held meetings during SCO summits.
It is noteworthy that Mirziyoyev arrived in Kazan today, October 23, to attend the BRICS summit, where Modi is also participating.
From October 22-24, the sixteenth BRICS summit is being held in Kazan, a key event under Russia’s chairmanship of the organization. Representatives from more than 30 countries are expected to attend, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
