King Abdullah II ibn al-Hussein of Jordan, accompanied by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, visited the historic monuments of Samarkand, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The two leaders first toured the Shahi Zinda complex, where the mausoleums of Qusam ibn Abbas, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad, and other prominent figures are located. King Abdullah II, a member of the Hashemite dynasty and a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad’s daughter Fatima and son-in-law Ali ibn Abu Talib, paid tribute to Qusam ibn Abbas. A recitation from the Quran was performed.

At the mausoleum of Amir Temur, the Jordanian delegation learned about the great ruler’s state policy, military achievements, and diplomatic ties with other nations. The guests were particularly impressed by the scale of Sahibkiran’s state, which was one of the largest empires of its time.

The leaders also visited the Registan complex, which consists of the Mirzo Ulugbek, Sherdor, and Tillakori madrasahs. For centuries, these monuments served as major centers of science and education, producing hundreds of scholars and researchers. During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the history of the complex’s construction, its architectural features, and ongoing restoration efforts.

King Abdullah II arrived in Samarkand today, August 25, on a state visit at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The Jordanian monarch was welcomed at Samarkand airport, where the state flags of both countries were raised and a guard of honor was lined up in his honor.
