Mirziyoyev congratulates two-time Olympic champions by phone

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with taekwondo athlete Ulugbek Rashidov and boxer Hasanboy Dusmatov, both of whom secured gold medals in their respective weight categories at the Paris Olympics, thereby becoming two-time Olympic champions. This information was reported by the President's press service.

The President congratulated the athletes and highlighted that the national team’s achievement of winning two Olympic gold medals in a single day was a historic moment for Uzbek sports. In response, Ulugbek Rashidov and Hasanboy Dusmatov expressed their gratitude to President Mirziyoyev for his support.

Earlier, President Mirziyoyev had also spoken by phone with Diyora Keldiyorova, who won the first gold medal for the Uzbek Olympic team by triumphing in the judo competition's 52 kg weight category.

Notably, 22-year-old Ulugbek Rashidov, who represented Uzbekistan in taekwondo at the Paris Olympics, has now become a two-time consecutive Olympic champion. Hasanboy Dusmatov, the gold medalist from the Rio 2016 Olympics, faced off against host boxer Bennama Bilal in the 51 kg weight category final, where he emerged victorious, thereby securing his second Olympic gold medal.

It is worth mentioning that earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan congratulated President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the success of Uzbek athletes at the Olympics during the meeting of Central Asian leaders in Astana. Tokayev also mentioned that he is a fan of Hasanboy Dusmatov.
