The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, together with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, attended the CAFA Nations Cup-2025 award ceremony. The Uzbekistan national team defeated Iran in the final to claim the tournament title.

In the 5th minute of the match, Iranian player Arya Yusuf was sent off for a rough challenge against Abbasbek Fayzullaev. From that moment, control and dominance of the game shifted to the Uzbek side. Despite several attacking opportunities, the first half ended goalless.

The second half began with continued pressure from Uzbekistan, though Iran managed to mount a series of counterattacks midway through the half. In the 54th minute, goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov was forced to leave the field due to injury, with Vladimir Nazarov stepping in as his replacement. In the 89th minute, Hodzhiakbar Alijanov was shown a red card, which was later downgraded to yellow following a VAR review. With the match tied at full time, the game moved into extra time. In the 119th minute, just one minute before the final whistle, Alijanov scored the decisive goal, securing Uzbekistan’s historic victory over Iran on home soil for the first time.

At the conclusion of the match, President Mirziyoyev personally awarded the players with gold medals and presented them with the tournament trophy.
