Mirziyoyev meets with “UN-Women” director

On May 14, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed a delegation led by Sima Sami Bakhus, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and Executive Director of “UN-Women”. The President's press service reported the visit.
The UN delegation is in Uzbekistan for the Asian Women's Forum in Samarkand.
Sima Sami Bakhus, representing the United Nations' gender equality institution, conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from Secretary General Antonio Guterres to President Mirziyoyev.
Uzbekistan's significant reforms to enhance women's status and societal roles were highly praised.
The meeting focused on advancing constructive cooperation between Uzbekistan and “UN-Women.”
“Uzbekistan has become a signatory to all major international conventions focused on protecting and promoting women's rights and is actively engaged with the relevant UN commission. The Asian Women's Forum's achievements have been highly praised, with an emphasis on making the forum a permanent platform for dialogue on expanding women's rights in the Asian region,” the report stated.
The necessity of adopting a medium-term cooperation program, which includes specific regional projects and initiatives, was highlighted.
There was support for the establishment of a "UN-Women" representative office in Uzbekistan.
