5861Today, September 2, representatives of state organizations and the public of Tashkent gathered to commemorate Islam Karimov. Head of State Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the site and laid a wreath at the statue of the First President. This was reported by the President's press service.
Islam Karimov is the leader who declared the country's independence and guided it on the path of development. In his speech on Independence Day, Mirziyoyev emphasized the historical significance of this:
"It is precisely because of independence that our national statehood was restored. Uzbekistan has entered a new historical period. It is precisely because of independence that we have taken a worthy place in the world community."
The Qur'an was recited at the scientific and educational memorial complex named after Islam Karimov. The services of the First President in maintaining peace and stability in Uzbekistan and improving the livelihoods of the population were remembered.
At the ceremony, representatives of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Presidential Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers, ministries and agencies, and the public also laid flowers at the statue of the First President.
Memorial events were also held in the cities of Samarkand and Karshi.
For information, Islam Karimov died on September 2, 2016, due to a serious illness at the age of 78. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev declared this date as a day of commemoration for Islam Karimov. By the President's decision on January 25, 2017, efforts were made to perpetuate the memory of the First President. Major complexes in the country and central streets in cities are named after Islam Karimov. A scientific and educational memorial complex named after Islam Karimov was established in Tashkent, and a mausoleum was built in Samarkand.
We remind you that during his visit to Samarkand on August 26, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Hazrat Hizr complex and laid flowers at the mausoleum of Islam Karimov, the First President of the country. Quranic verses were recited and prayers were offered. Today, the former First Lady of Uzbekistan, Tatyana Karimova, also remembered the memory of the First President Islam Karimov and laid flowers at his grave.
