This bridge, linking the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Khorezm region, will significantly improve transportation, cutting travel time by 2 hours for cars and 6 hours for trains, as reported by the President's press service. President Mirziyoyev proposed the bridge's construction during a meeting with Khorezm region activists on December 13, 2020. Subsequently, a detailed project was developed, and extensive construction efforts were undertaken, with the head of state personally visiting the site twice.
"The advancement of the region, notably the Republic of Karakalpakstan, is a key objective of our nation's development strategy, aimed at mitigating the environmental crisis's impact and enhancing living conditions for our population facing adversity. The happiness and well-being of the people of Uzbekistan are paramount. Today marks another significant stride toward achieving this noble objective," stated Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The bridge spans 423 meters in length and includes an 85-kilometer railway connecting the Shovot-Qoraozak stations, along with three railway stations.
"This remarkable bridge, a collaborative effort, transcends mere infrastructure. It symbolizes the robust trust, friendship, and cooperation between the Uzbek and Karakalpak peoples. It represents the path to development and prosperity for New Uzbekistan and New Karakalpakstan, embracing the global community. May this historic day fulfill the aspirations of thousands of our compatriots on both sides, longing for brighter days," remarked the President.
President Mirziyoyev extended gratitude to the skilled builders, designers, and engineers who persevered through challenging climatic conditions, as well as to all contributors to the bridge's construction. Efforts aimed at enhancing living standards for the populace will continue unabated.
Additionally, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is scheduled to convene a meeting in Urganch city today to discuss forthcoming development tasks for the Khorezm region.
