Mirziyoyev expresses his condolences on the death of Shinzo Abe

Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent condolences to Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in connection with the untimely death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in an assassination attempt.  This is reported by the press service under the president’s administration of Uzbekistan.

The letters of condolence noted that Abe’s policy programs and innovative initiatives had contributed to the sustainable development of Japan and the strengthening of the country’s role in international relations and the world economy.

It was noted that the personal merits of the great statesman will be always highly appreciated in the development of multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Japan, and consistent and effective expansion of the strategic partnership.

The president of Uzbekistan also expressed deep condolences to the deceased’s spouse and all his family.

It should be noted that former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was killed today, 8 July during an election campaign in the city of Nara.  The former Prime Minister was hospitalized bleeding and unconscious.  Abe died shortly thereafter.

At the scene, the man who fired several rounds from an improvised rifle was arrested.  He was a 41-year-old resident Tetsuya Yamagami, a former Japanese self-defense forces sailor.  He is currently being questioned by the police.
