At the invitation of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, arrived in Samarkand on an official visit today, May 28. The press service of the President of Uzbekistan reported the news.
Prime Minister Meloni was personally welcomed by President Mirziyoyev at Samarkand International Airport.
In honor of the high-ranking guest, the national flags of both countries were raised, and a guard of honor was formed.
The main events of the visit are scheduled to take place tomorrow, May 29.
High-level talks and a series of bilateral events are planned.
It is worth noting that Meloni originally planned to visit Uzbekistan and then Kazakhstan to take part in the summit of Central Asian leaders, which was scheduled for April 25–27. However, the visit was postponed due to the death of Pope Francis on April 21 and the subsequent period of mourning.
The first summit involving the heads of Central Asian states and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is now set to take place in Astana on May 30.
