Earlier, it was reported that a judge of the Mirabad district Criminal Court of Tashkent had hijacked a car while intoxicated. Following the incident, he was dismissed from his position and his judicial powers were terminated before the end of his term. The judge has now been sentenced to seven years in prison. This was confirmed to QALAMPIR.UZ by Aziz Obidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court.

According to the verdict announced on September 11 this year by the Judicial Panel for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court, Rustam Rahmonov (born in 1981 in Kashkadarya region, who had served as a judge of the Mirabad district Criminal Court), was found guilty of committing crimes under Article 219 (resisting a representative of authority or a person performing a civic duty) and Article 267 (vehicle hijacking) of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment.

It was stated that the parties have the right to appeal the verdict of the court of first instance to the Judicial Board for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court in accordance with the procedure and timeframe established by law.

It is worth mentioning that in December 2024, Rustam Rakhmonov was reappointed for another 10-year term as a judge of the Mirabad district Criminal Court.

Article 267 of the Criminal Code establishes liability for hijacking a vehicle. According to this provision, a person who unlawfully takes possession of a vehicle may be sentenced to imprisonment for 5 to 10 years. If the act is committed repeatedly or by a dangerous recidivist, by a group of persons in collusion, through the use of violence or threats of violence, or with the intent of plundering the vehicle by theft or robbery, the penalty ranges from 10 to 15 years of imprisonment. If the hijacking is carried out by a particularly dangerous recidivist or by an organized group to plunder the vehicle through assault, the offender may be sentenced to 15 to 20 years of imprisonment.
